Camping Gear -- Military Style
![]() |
The military is a great source of information on how to survive in the wild. Even though we may not know all their secret tactics and techniques, we can always benefit from their choice of their camping equipment. Military camping gear is often of high quality, very well-made and extremely rugged. You may not find lots of fancy frills, but you will find gear that gets the job done.
Military surplus stores often have outdoor gear that have been made for military use. You will find clothing made for the wilderness, for example headgear, footwear and everything in between. You will find the perfect clothing for all conditions, whether for camping in the desert or in the woods (jungle). You will also find military shelter, including tents for different size groups and different terrains and weather/climate. There is of course, the gadgets!
How about a pair of military binoculars or maybe an army compass or GPS navigation system. You will also find handbooks and guidebooks which is a source of info on how to survive in the wild. You will also find tools of all kinds, from shovels, knives, water canteen and even a meal read to eat (MRE). New portable meals require no water and no preparation before eating.
Military camping equipment will make you feel like a rugged survivalist even if you are just going to your local camping site. If you are heading into the deep woods, military style gear will help keep you safe from the elements and predators. Make sure you bring your sunscreen, insect repellent and also first aid kit. If you are going to more risky locations, you may need some kind of weapon or noisemake such as pepper spray, a loud whistle and perhaps a knife. When it comes to the outdoors, the military is able to offer useful and sturdy gear. When you choose or pack your military equipment, keep in mind what the Boy Scouts say - 'Always be Prepared!'
