Baby Camping Gear for Your Little Camper
![]() |
Camping with a baby is quite different than camping with adults only. Babies have special needs which must be provided for where ever you are. While it is challenging to camp with an infant, it is not impossible. The trick is to ensure you pack the right baby camping gear. The first thing you should have is a save enclosure, like a trailer or a camper. You will also need an appropriate place for the baby to sleep, such as a portable baby crib or a bassinet. A tent is not suitable for a small baby and should not be used until your child is older and able to sleep in an adult size bed.
Another piece of gear you will need is a backpack or a sling so that you can comfortably bring your baby with you on nature walks. Make sure your baby is comfortably dressed in clothing that is suitable for the weather. Don't forget high factor sunscreen or sunblock to protect your little one's delicate skin from the sun. A hat with a large brim to provide shade and shield your baby's head from sunburn is also a must. Bring along a suitable first aid kid in case of minor injury and also a radio, mobile phone or walkie talkie to contact help in case of emergency.
Baby food is another item you will need. If you are breastfeeding, this issue can be taken care of easily. For formula or baby food, make sure you have more than enough for the trip. You will also need to have plenty of clean, filtered water to prepare your baby's meals. Stock your nappy bag with plenty of nappies, wipes, bottles, pacifiers, outfits, toys and teething ring if your baby is teething. Teething babies enjoy firm crunchy snacks. If your baby is old enough, bring fruit juice. You will find large bottles as well as small serving size bottles perfect for traveling.
A good tip is to make a list before you start packing your baby's camping gear. The first time can be overwhelming and you may even forget a thing or two and realise only after you have reached your destination. Making a list will help prevent this from happening. After your first successful camping trip with your little bundle of joy, you will find yourself more comfortable and prepared for the next time you and your baby go on a camping trip.
